Focus
Drugs, alcohol, and other compulsive behaviors tend to demand a lot of our attention. It’s easy to lose touch of the things that we are actually passionate about when we are sick and our only concern is where we’re getting our next drink or our next high.
Creative and Therapeutic Activities
At Balance House, it is important to us that our clients reconnect with something creative that they love, or help them find something new and exciting that they can become proficient at. We find that artistic expression allows clients to find ways to communicate where words can’t and find ways to identify how they feel when they might not even know themselves. Mastering a craft also creates a set of goalposts where they can measure where they started and how far they’ve come.
Focus Project
After 30 days at EVNSQ, clients are tasked with pitching and executing their Focus Project, a creative passion project that we will fund and support during their time in Phase I. Because we’ve seen a lot of Focus Projects, we’ve become pretty well equipped to support just about anything. At EVNSQ alone, we have previous clients’ Focus Projects such as:
- An art room for painting
- Multiple gardens
- A music room with drums, guitar, bass, and recording booth
- A computer loaded with photo and video editing software
- A GoPro, drone, and camcorder for videography
If there’s something a client is interested in that we don’t have, we’ll invest the time and money to make it happen. While the whole idea may sound silly and expensive, we believe that the results far outweigh any money spent; not only does it help our guys potentially find their own creative outlet, but it also teaches them how to create and fulfill a goal. Through this process, they learn how to brainstorm, plan, and execute something that only they have complete ownership of. If we’re in the business of helping them to create a life for themselves, a Focus Project is a pretty good place to start.
